Coach Marek Betowski

Coach Marek Betkowski is a full time professional coach and is the Director of Coaching for Bay United Soccer Club.  He began his soccer career as a former player in his native Poland.  He has 25 years of coaching experience and holds a Master's Degree in Physical Education with a Soccer Specialty Degree. He started coaching in 1986 while still playing in Poland.  There he coached the teams at the youth level for 10 years before moving to the United States.

Coach Betkowski holds a United States Soccer Federation B and C license and an  FYSA D license. He was named the 2003 Florida Youth Soccer Association's Coach of the Year.  From 1998-2010, Coach Betkowski coached the Mosley High School Boys Varsity Soccer Team--taking them to 11 Bay County Championships. Since 2010, he has coached the Mosley High School Girls Varsity Team. He has coached this team to five County Championships, Regional Finalists in 2011, 2014, and 2015, and District Championships in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Since 1996, he has coached Bay United Soccer Club teams reaching tournament finals games 268 times and winning over 173 Tournament Championships.  His BUSC teams have earned 16 FYSA Region D Championship Titles.  In 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008, his teams earned FYSA President's Cup Championships. In 2004, his BUSC U15 Girls team won the FYSA President’s Cup, USSF Region III Cup, and they played in the U.S. Final Four in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

Coach Betkowski is currently serving Bay United Soccer Club as Director of Coaching and has held an NSCAA Director of Coaching license since 2012.



Juan Goicoechea

Born in Ataun, Guipuzcoa, Spain, Coach Goicoechea was instrumental as a co-founder of what was originally the Panama City Lady Sharks and which later became Bay United Soccer Club.

Coach Goicoechea holds a USSF “C” National license. He has coached soccer in Bay County since 1990 beginning with Bay Girls Soccer and then later Bay United Soccer Club, where he is still coaching today. He was also the Mosley girls JV assistant coach during the 1994-1996 seasons.

He has coached numerous teams within Bay United from U9 all the way up to U19. A number of the players he has coached have gone to play college ball, beginning with the original group of Sharks.  These include Maite Goicoechea Mahoney-Troy State University, Erin Bear- University of North Florida, Wynter Davis- University of West Florida, Erin Shepard Brack-Tulane University, Magee Wilson- University of Ohio-Toledo, just to name a few.

Coach Goicoechea has been married since 1975 to his wife, Tessie, and has 3 children, Jon Andoni Goicoechea (deceased), Maite Goicoechea Mahoney and Miren Goicoechea Gregory.

Coach Jon Rhodes brings 20 years of experience within soccer from every level. He is a student of Professional Coaching beginning at Professional Club Hull City A.F.C  in England as a 17 yr old learning the system and methods of the English F.A., the founders of football today. He progressed through the system as a coach helping founder an academy at the club that is still in effect 18 years later, moving on to coach the U12 and U14 Hull City girls teams and helped develop the program to move up to become the ladies semi-professional team.

During his time at the pro club, he was allocated a scouting position for the U9-U12 School of Excellence program then progressed to the School of Excellence as a coach for 8 years where he coached the U9- U10 and U14 over that period.

He also achieved a nationally recognized certificate in Coaching Disabled Footballers as well as a Community Sports Leaders Award and an Associates Degree in Supervisory Management in Sports and Recreation on top of his 3 F.A. Coaching Licenses and 1 UEFA coaching license. After a spell in the USA, a return to England in 2001 took him back to Hull City A.F.C. and also became a Technical coach and Fitness Trainer for Futbol De Salo Brazilian soccer schools for 2 years before returning in 2003.  

After coming to the USA the first time he became a camp director for the #1 soccer camp company in the states coaching in over 15 different states coaching everything from mini soccer to All Star camps.                                    







Coach Danny Griffin

Team - U10 Boys White

Coach Griffin was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He has lived in Panama City, Florida and the surrounding areas since 1980. Panama City is his home. He attributes soccer and playing club soccer as a child as a major role in the development of the morals and values that he carries every day. As a child of divorced parents, soccer was his coping mechanism. He played club soccer for Coach Adam Killick as a teenager, which was the best time of his childhood. 

Coach Griffin was the first player from Mosley High School to be named 1st team All-State by the Florida High School Soccer Association in 1989. His youth soccer coaches were the most influential people in his life as a child, and he still speaks to all of them to this day. Coach Griffin says, “I coach today knowing that I can be a positive influence and a good role model for each and every one of my players.”

He has been married since 2000 to his wife, Darlene Lockard Griffin, and they have 3 children, Olivia(10), Alexia(Lexy) (8), & Hunter(6), all of whom currently play for Bay United.

Coach Aaron Murphy

Team - U14 Boys and U116-18Boys



Coach Aaron Murphy has been a part of soccer his whole life.  He began playing when he was 5 years old and played through high school.  He started coaching at the recreation level in 2006 and now coaches both high school soccer at Arnold High School and Club soccer with Bay United.  He has been with Bay United since 2009 and retains a NSCAA National license, FYSA D license, as well as a Barcelona Special Topic Certificate. He is currently coaching the '01 Boys for Bay United.

                                  


Coach Dan Nix

Team - U11 Girls  


Coach Nix coached with the Bay County Youth Soccer Association from 1997-2006.  During this time 5 of his teams won league championships and several earned runner-up titles. He also coached middle school soccer from 2003 through 2006 at Covenant Christian School. During 2007-08, Dan’s first season as the Mosley Girls JV head coach, the team completed an undefeated regular season of 14-0.  From 2008-09 the Mosley JV Girls team completed the season with a record of 13-1-1 and won the Rutherford JV tournament.


Since 2009, Coach Nix has coached for Bay United Soccer Club. The teams he has coached are as follows:

U10 Boys - Record of 27-7-1 winning 6 championship and 1 finalist titles for the 2009-10 season. 

U11 Boys – Record of 24-10-3 winning 6 championship titles for the 2010-11 season. 

U10 Girls Blue - Record of 29-6-2 winning 7 championship and 3 finalist titles and ending the season with a State ranking of #5 for the 2011-2012 season.


Coach Nix graduated from Troy State University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and Accounting. Dan works at Florida State University Panama City as the Director of Finance and Administration. Dan is married to Kim, a kindergarten teacher, and they have two children, Hannah and Heidi.

Coach Dave Skakal

Team - U13 Girls 


Coach Dave Skakal holds a Florida State “D” coaching license (1996), and has been coaching in boys and girls soccer programs since 1991 in California and Florida. He was a founding member of Bay Select Soccer Club (later Bay United) in the fall of 1993, served seven years on the board of directors including being tournament director for the Endless Summer Soccer Tournament for two years.


Coach Skakal began his coaching as a U-8 recreational coach in Redlands, California while serving with the United States Air Force. He then coached U-10 through U-13 boys teams for Bay Select Soccer Club in Panama City, Florida through 1997, and was also team manager for his son’s Bay United teams through the U-17 age division in 2001. Since 2003 he has been coaching girls recreational league teams from ages U-6 through U-10. Dave is a former president of Mosley Soccer Booster Club and a member of the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).


He has been the head coach for the Mosley High School boys soccer team since 2002, also teaching in the Social Studies department, holding a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and a Master of Science in Business Administration. He and his wife Merrilyn have three children and four grandchildren. Coach Skakal returned to Bay United in the fall of 2009 and is presently coach for the Bay United 98' Girls team.
